Meet Cuddles. She's a mix of a Staffordshire terrier and a poodle. She looks a little unusual-for one thing, she has very long legs-but those who know her know she's very special.

Her first people-parents take her to a shelter when she is just five months old. Although she has many other dogs to play with, she is lonely and longing for affection. Luckily for her, she is soon adopted by a couple and gets a brand-new home. There she learns about how to go potty in the backyard rather than in the house, and she enjoys running and playing outside and swimming in the pool. She also gets to know her new house buddy, Dugi, a morkie (Maltese/Yorkie). What's more, she has lots of tips to offer new dog owners to help them get their pets settled in.

This children's story tells how a rescue dog is adopted into a family and finds a new and happy life with them.

I was just five months old when I was taken to an animal shelter. I didn't know if my people-parents didn't want me or if they just couldn't keep me. It might seem sad to you, but I didn't seem to mind at the time. There were so many other dogs there that it seemed ok. I was usually kept in a cage, but they did let me out to exercise with the other dogs. Wow; I ran around like crazy with these long legs of mine.I got fed and watered pretty good. But I didn't get the love and affection I really needed from a real person. There just wasn't enough people to help out in this shelter. Over a short period of time, I started getting lonely for someone to love me...

Heleena McGee has always been an animal lover. She lives in the scenic area of Livingston, Montana, with her husband, David, their two cocker spaniels, Jackson and Lilly; one cat named Little Girl; and fourteen laying hens. She is also an avid gardener who enjoys cooking and fishing.
